Organic Research and Development at GFS Chemicals
Research and Development (R&D) is an expansive industry term covering a broad range of new product development and process enhancement activity. Our approach to R&D has been, and continues to be, aimed at providing support for our core product lines and the investigation of new product opportunities. (Download "Organic Core Focus" Power Point presentation located in the Others Section/Download Files of the website.) Process development, scale-up and new synthetic methodologies to support existing and new product opportunities are the major targets for our R&D staff.
Our R&D staff members have over 80 years of industrial experience developing process chemistry and supporting projects for major companies in the following industries:
- Pharmaceutical
- Agricultural
- Flavor and Fragrance
- Semiconductor
- Automotive
- Plastic
- Paints and Coatings
Current areas of interest include:
- Heterocycle intermediates using our core building blocks of alkynes (Download "Heterocycles " located in the Others Section/Download Files of the website. )
- Diels-Alder chemistry through the use of lithium perchlorate as a catalyst.
- Development of specialty acetylenes such as: (Download "New Technologies- Organic " located in the Others Section/Download Files of the website.)
- Conjugated ene-yne derivatives
- Ethynyl and specialty thiophenes
- Protected carboxylic acids
- Alpha & Omega functionalized derivatives
- Hydroxylated polyacetylenes (Under Development)
- Ethynylated aldehydes and amines
- Use of liquid ammonia as an alternative reaction medium for alkylations, eliminations, ethynylations, trans- reductions of acetylenes, aminations or new applications suggested by our customers.
Our goal is to support our customer base with product additions and project opportunities that remain in line with our core product lines and chemistry capabilities. Although not a full range custom chemistry provider, GFS has the technical capability and experience to offer a wide variety of chemistry options for today’s ever expanding technology world.
