GFS Proactive Commitment
Even a small business has a responsibility to conduct itself with integrity and foresight in areas such as community involvement, environmental responsibility, and resource stewardship. GFS Chemicals is committed to proactivity in all these areas. The following describes some of the associations we have forged over the years.
In the 1940’s our founder, Prof. G. Frederick Smith, began to underwrite the annual MUACC (Midwestern University Analytical Chemistry Conference) meetings. The series continues today to maintain basic levels of communication among analytical faculties in the Midwest, and is a testimony to the positive influence that “the Professor” had on a vitally important chemical discipline.
Established in 1998, the G. Frederick Smith Memorial Lecture Series at the University of Illinois, Smith’s sole professional tenure, attracts world-class speakers covering a broad range of analytical disciplines, including bio-analytical expression on a cellular level, the electro-optics of metal ligand complexes, current topics in systems biology, genomics and proteomics, and catalytic mechanisms associated with the complex chemistries of solid surfaces.
GFS is also a regular contributor to a “blog” – www.vanishingzero.org - created to advocate, on many levels, the use of sound science in the determination of environmental policy and regulatory guidelines in the face of growing uncertainty over the gathering and interpretation of analytical and toxicological data.
As a leading authority on the chemistry of perchloric acid and perchlorate salts, GFS is committed to the generation, publication and distribution of a wide range of technical information that is an essential part of ensuring the safe use of this family of products offered by the company.
GFS is also active in many other local, state, and national associations related to the chemical industry, including the Ohio Chemistry Technology Council, the American Chemical Society, the Chemical Specialties Management Council, and the American Water Works Association.
